Dear Ms. Davidow,
I’m excited about this semester, I do think knowing who we are treating is crucial, that’s why I will tell you about Jordan Alexander Zhingri Duchitanga, pretty long I know, my whole name pointed out that I am not from The USA, I am from Ecuador placed in South America, Ecuador is small compared to other countries near to it, and if you ask me how I would describe my culture the word I will come up is “Diversity”, since I was a child family, adults, and school taught me despite being “small” we have a lot to see and discover, also, as important for my culture and Latino culture family is something very important for us. Looking for every loved one is natural, and sounds normal but when I came here the contrast of how families are is very different, you would say when you hear the word “family” you are talking about blood-related persons, which is not in my family, I could say family is every person we appreciate and make them part of our family, it is common in Latinos Families, and in my case is still present, more than blood culture connect Latinos.
Once done talking about my values, I want you to know more about me. I am a 19 years old freshman in his second semester , who is an undeclared students that tries to pursuit a Major In Computer Science, or System Engineering, both of them will make me feel good. I am really interested in science and technology, because it can fix problems that human kind would have never imagined possible, creates incredible stuff for us, help people continuous with their life in case of an accident, just imagine humans four decades ago and compared it with us is very awesome, I know this major requires me to be a good writer, communicator and independent learner, which sometimes scary me, because I only have 3 years in this country and lucky was accepted in college and can work to achieve my goals. Thanks to my first semester I could identify my week points as student and person, what did not bother me it had the opposite effect. In my family we don’t have a considerable amount of persona who got into college and make me that I can do something different for me and my family, I will get experience and knowledge that will help me grow as person, that’s one thing I am really sure about.
As I mentioned I also found where I am not good at all, and areas where I will definitely have to work on, such as grammar, writing quality, and time, Grammar is something that was highlighted in most of my assignments the last semester, I’m working on this practicing and studying grammar, then my writing qualify referred in how organized what I want to write about. Finally the time I take when I write is something normal for everyone, but I spoke Spanish my whole life, and learn writing, and speaking in another language is tough sometimes.
To conclude this letter I want to mentioned the time I hear my dad’s past, he was poor, and just had finished school, then went to work at a short age, he went through a tough life, however, what make surprise me was that although his background and limitations he always try to be better independently what people says and comment of him. In the other hand you got me undecided about simple stuff and doubting what to do with his life, my lack of confidence was something that always make me get mad at myself, but thanks to my dad personality helped me get better in confidence. Understanding limits are imposed by the word is inevitable but the decision of accepting and surrender to this is your decision, what works as mantra for me and push me to face problems and situation no matter how hard it is. These were a few things that I wrote about, and hope it make you understanding me a quit better.
Sincerely,
Jordan Zhingri
